Jay and Mike are a fun-loving couple that enjoy experiences over possessions. They met online while we they were both graduate students in Chicago. Jay was at the Public Policy School at the University of Chicago and Mike was at DePaul getting his Masters in Computer Science. They had separately decided that they weren’t meeting people the “normal” way, so they tried online dating. We messaged each other at the exact same time, then messaged/texted back and forth for three months before meeting up in person.
From Jay “Our first date was the Jill Scott Summer Block Party in Chicago. I picked him up from work on a Friday and drove to the outdoor concert. We laughed, talked, and danced the whole time. There was even an on-stage proposal the night that we were there (we thought it was a positive sign).”
While on vacation in Bermuda and about to go to dinner in the hotel restaurant Mike suggested that they dress up and, on the way to the restaurant, suggested they stop by the private pier. As Jay looked out on the bay, taking a video of the calm water, Mike dropped to one knee, told Jay that she was his universe, and asked if she would be his wife.
With wedding plans coming together Jay and Mike are looking forward to finally becoming husband and wife and celebrating the declaration with family and friends! We ventured out to The National Gallery of Art to have a good time and capture some photos to commemorate their engagement.
